A continuous lead ingot casting and cutting line that we exported to Vietnam in 2025 completed installation and commissioning in January 2026 and has since entered stable production. The project replaced a more intermittent mold-based route with a coordinated process for metal delivery, continuous ingot formation, cooling and cutting. For the customer, the change was not simply a faster casting machine. It created one operating sequence in which the main process settings could be adjusted and observed together, with less repeated movement between separate hot-production steps.

Connecting casting, cooling and cutting

Lead ingot production depends on the condition of the metal before it reaches the casting section and on what happens while the section solidifies. Melt composition and temperature affect flow; the casting rate and cooling duty influence the release condition; and the cutting position determines whether the finished ingot matches the approved length or weight. During commissioning, our engineers worked through these variables as a connected system rather than tuning one mechanism in isolation. A change in metal flow can alter the cooling time available before cutting, while a change in cutting duty can affect how the next ingot is transferred and handled.

The continuous route reduces the interruptions associated with filling and moving separate molds. It also gives the operator a defined set of parameters to monitor from casting through cutting. Compared with the previous batch process, the customer reported a substantial increase in throughput together with more consistent ingot formation. Actual output depends on the alloy, melt supply, ingot dimensions, cooling conditions, cutting cycle and downstream handling arrangement at each plant.

Commissioning for the customer’s ingot

The commissioning work focused on establishing a repeatable operating window for the customer’s material and product specification. Metal-delivery settings, cooling, ingot release and cutting position were adjusted while the team observed surface condition, geometry and material transfer. These trials provide the baseline for normal production, but stable operation still depends on disciplined melt preparation, cleaning, inspection and preventive maintenance. Operators also need clear procedures for start-up, shutdown and any interruption in metal flow.

Automation reduces repeated manual handling close to hot metal, but it does not replace plant-level safety and environmental engineering. The completed installation must still provide suitable guarding, ventilation and fume collection, safe access, emergency procedures and protective equipment in accordance with the customer’s local requirements. These interfaces are particularly important when a plant moves from familiar batch molds to continuous operation, because staffing and maintenance routines change with the production method.

After commissioning, the customer reported stable production. Our project support now shifts from start-up settings to the operating questions that arise with actual production schedules, wear parts and maintenance intervals. For another lead producer considering the same route, the engineering basis should include the alloy or lead grade, melt condition, ingot drawing or target weight, required output, cooling-water conditions, cutting and stacking method, ventilation scope and available floor space.
